Pecans make a warm brown dye that is light-fast, and strong. It can also be used as a tannin. My pecan trees are more decorative than nut-bearing, so I sell them whole because the nutmeat is rather small. I usually soak them overnight and then blend them in the blender, before heating them in my dye pot.
